Since Saturday afternoon we are Muros anchor. The crossing was smooth. Your selected us weather window was not optimal but the best, what we could get. That meant in detail: Although we had no wind from the front, but we had but otherwise no wind. 1-3 Node circulating winds felt at more like my hairdryer in the bathroom and not like sailing. SUMMER unfortunately was also unimpressed and was not really going. Good, daß wir noch in La Coruna 150 Liters of diesel had refueled. So while almost the entire trip we had run on the machine. After all, we had the rain, had firmly hung over the harbor of Friday, left after about two hours behind us. Unfortunately, I discovered during my night watch, that we had stowaways from La Coruna taken on board. A few of the bloodthirsty pests torpedoed my well deserved sleep and would not be really relaxing my vigil. But now they are history. Early morning I seemed to have killed the last of the gang.
The “Ria de Muros” presented today for the first time in its entire beauty. For once the sun was shining. The partially dense fog, also the last part surprised us crossing within minutes, had cleared. The small city is idyllically located below the pine-covered mountains. Of these, however, was unfortunately almost nothing to see in the last days.
Muros well seem to be a popular place in the Spanish holidaymakers. On our first shore excursion with the dinghy on Saturday the beaches were quite animated despite the weather and we found after a long search a place in one of the many tapas bars. Slightly surprised we found, that the prices in comparison with La Coruna were still significantly higher. The small town itself had for us rather a morbid charm. The buildings are partially fallen right off the waterfront and it is missing from the city core to significantly flair. But nevertheless we had a really fun evening. Because right on the harbor, a stage was built and from 10 Clock rang rock and heavy metal over the whole bay. This also we did not want to miss and injected with the dinghy ashore again.
The small, very sheltered bay with its wide sandy beach but still invited to stay, then on Sunday night should go through a storm with lots of wind and rain again. So the night was in spite of the strong wind but still relaxing and during the day it became increasingly dry. I used the time for more travel planning, while Dietmar with the dinghy went ashore and explored further the city.
In the early evening the SY Ganesha walked beside us anchor. She had made a stopover at Cape Finisterre. Together we decided on a leisurely dinner, to spend two more days in Muros. Again stood some work on our list and there was also a gaping void in the onboard refrigerator. After pulling another little bad weather on Tuesday it should go south. San Vincent del Mar was the next stop on the agenda. Due to the unstable weather conditions up here in northern Spain we decided, to shorten our time spent in this part of the country considerably and quickly to sail to Portugal in the hope, there regain the coveted summer.
The SY MENTOR wants to make today on the way in our direction. Perhaps there is already in San Vincent a reunion.
Moored for us no everyday situation. So far, we have almost always located on the web in any Marina. Each time you could leave the boat easily. Showers and other sanitary facilities were (in different qualities) land available. Water and electricity were to be had on the pier. Usually you had Internet access via WiFi. Now everything is different. First, directly after the anchor was dropped, The dinghy was made clear. Any way ashore is a trip for two, because my skills in dinghy ride is not as advanced are. Power we have sufficient enough on board and it can, if required, produce even. Exactly the same is true for fresh water. Every other day has ran our watermaker. Only only the WiFi connection is really from us. Today the suffering was so great, that we have finally dealt with the problem of non-functioning WLAN antenna. Unfortunately, with the result, that our problem somewhere in the antenna on the top of the mast 20 Meters is. As Dietmar today must anyway in the mast, However, we will continue to pursue the same theme. Let's see, whether we can report success today evening.
So you feel in the age of the general and permanent accessibility but amazing at the same time of the “World” cut off amazingly. For both of us a new experience.

Vampires Gone Wrong! The nasty strategy of a sacrificial anode……..
The last 3 Days on board were rather busy nature and filled with deferred Horns & Megaphones. Meanwhile I the contents of the lockers (Stowage under deck) have turned from left to right and have partly funded amazing to days, Katja has been devoted to the administrative part. Almost full 2 Days you wrote emails and reports, does the filing, Brought order to the ship, Loaded washing machines and by the way your hobby, so to speak “to compensate”, der Zubereitung von Köstlichkeiten gefrönt 🙂
The myself assigned tasks were, after all, not even by board. In addition to a regularly conducted quality control of the galley and Keksbestände including coffee and cappuccino bar, I also had to bring our boat to water and to test with different engine variants. To be optimal, the 6 Hp Yamaha outboard proven because the boat so literally flies `s water. Unfortunately I have no release of Katja get a 15 PS Motor zu testen 🙂 Weiterhin wurde der Tauchflaschenkompressor mit Benzinmotor und eine mit Benzin betriebene Motorwasserpumpe in Betrieb genommen. Our dock neighbors had the nose pretty full of many waste gases. Especially, weil die Geräte ausgiebig im Vollgasmodus getestet worden sind 🙂
But woe when the night came and lay down the veil of darkness and hypocritical rest of the harbor…… Shortly after midnight they came, the winged Vampire. Mosquitoes! The first night I had to dream the feeling when I woke up and my left foot sole itching violently one could also say, burned! From then on, I was warned and had pulled me despite the sweltering heat the blanket over both ears, to ward off the attack of pests. Again, this bright buzzing sound from the center of the room coming closer and closer, went out the next successful blood donation to the vampires of my arm. Damn how the itch! No idea, whether the beasts here Tabasco have the trunk but the sting was almost the fun part in this drama. No chance of escape. Only the tip of the nose peeped out of the ceiling into the open. It did not help! I felt like a pin cushion in a home economics school on Open Day.
Only one thing has made me very suspicious. Why do the beasts my blood and not that of my wife? Could I but have always been very safely be, that Katja was the victim of desire and I had a peaceful sleep and am spared from all forms of perforations. How often I have Katja in my descriptions to the amusement of all as “Opferanode” referred! (a sacrificial anode is made of zinc and is the underwater hull to protect stainless steel parts such as. the drive shaft mounted. The zinc is to protect (galvanisches Element) sacrificed stainless steel!) That this was indeed different times in!
My in-laws “Opferanode” had namely from the nose to the sole “Antibrumm” rubbed and thus leave her husband completely unprotected mosquitoes. With relish, she then gave breakfast to top, that they previously 3 Gnats in the bathroom had seen and wanted to play it safe. Not so bad this strategy. Fies but all because they did not tell me until today, where they hid the bottle. So ein Biest 🙂
In a few hours we are secluded and overnight, the “Cup Fisterra” happen. We ca. 90 To master nautical miles and hope against tomorrow at noon in “Ria de Muros” to arrive. We want to once again moor in a marina, as we await the passage of a low pressure area with strong winds. Then we want to go in a bay for a few days at anchor.
Finally, an advice to all captains: Unterschätzt bloß Eure Frauen nicht 🙂
Now `s further! `S now more?
Tomorrow it will go toward the south, or more precisely, to the southwest. That is why today so were again the usual preparations for the program would be the as:
– Wash clothes
– Shopping
– Clean boat and convert it into a sail ready state
– Dinghy verstauen
– Do post
– Write emails
– Update Website
..and ..., and, and….
Since the early bird catches the worm and we were off early today, We got hold of us after breakfast actually the very popular “No washing machine. 2”, which entrusted to her underwear normally without major floods and discoloration (das Lack von Nr. 1+3) would give again. While our laundry so turned their rounds, we made the four of us with the bike on the way to the supermarket. On the roof of the supermarket is located in La Coruna, a market hall, in until noon on small fruit stands, Vegetables, Fish and meat (tlw. still alive) is offered. With our huge selection we were spoiled for choice, but very soon after our bags were packed with all sorts of tasty stuff. Arrived back at the boat, go even a little later the laundry to dry in the wind. The boss took some additional duties on board, even without complaining as usual. He stowed the dinghy, Cleaned the bathroom and the kitchen and the food given to safe and well deck. I like to fool me but I think, das lag vielleicht auch ein wenig an der Aussicht auf ein verlockendes Mittagessen 🙂
The crew of SY MENTOR one last time were of habit in the late afternoon matched the next milestones. Unfortunately, wind and weather have turned against us. Egal ob Wetterwelt, Passage Weather or US-Grib, this time all the weathermen were unfortunately agree. Thus, the departure time was tilted because in the forecast, we would have no interest in traveling. The wind came from the southwest and just exactly in this direction was our goal. Schade, that a sailboat can not sail against the wind. And how the image will develop in the coming hours and days, we will see yes. Die Wettergötter würfeln noch 🙂 Wehe die Vorhersage stimmt dann nicht! Then we sell the gentlemen “Frogs” an unsere französischen Nachbarn 🙂
But there could be far worse places, where you spend your time “must”. Although most sailors are fidgety and antsy after a long residence time in the harbor and sail want (is the way in technical jargon “Port Koller” stated), so sind das doch ganz eindeutig nur Luxus-Problemchen 🙂

No Car, but a floor without shell and bottle on the Camino de Santiago ……
Exactly at a quarter to eight there was a knock at our boat and Waltraud and Wolfgang were booted and spurred for our planned trip to Santiago de Compostela on the web. By taxi, it went to the station, where we wanted to rent a car for today's excursion. The lady at the car rental looked at us in disbelief: Unreserved? Unlucky! The next car would be in the earliest 2 To have days. Just und Ciao! In Spain everything to be planned in advance. There was nothing to be done!
But if you're already at the station, why then do not coincide with the train? For fabulous 7,20 € per person, we were not 10 Minutes later the next train to Santiago de Compostela the “Pilgerhochburg” at the end of the pilgrimage .. Better we had the can not catch. Comfortable, laid back, without detours, Storage and other adventures we reached only 30 Minutes later, shortly before nine clock our goal.
So early we were still able to enjoy, to enjoy the beautiful city for a while before the big rush of pilgrims and tourists. Sorry, currently the main portal of the cathedral is covered in large part because of extensive renovations. Good, that we are not all made the pilgrimage of St. James ….We visited the cathedral and decided, to visit the noonday fair. Although we both are really no churchgoer, it seemed to us here somehow appropriate. Even before the show were almost all the seats occupied but a stream of other people urged unabated in the nave. We collared still have a place in the side aisle and waited for what, were to come. Even after the arrival of the priest, the flow of tourists from not broke. A devotional mood was not on because of all the corners were using cell phones pictures and videos taken. An atmosphere like at the Cologne main train station .... After less than ten minutes we were fed up. While it's great, that the Spaniards are so tolerant and deny anyone access to the Cathedral, but as the show loses all humor and dignity.
The entire historic center of Santiago is the sign of the Camino de Santiago and the Pilger.Überall in the city could buy souvenirs: The pilgrims sticks with water bottle and the scallop had it Dietmar particularly impressed. Soon it was up to an agreement and so my captain turned a one “bona fide” Pilgrim. The water bottle and the clam him but were too embarrassed and were located. The beautiful walking stick was but the rest of the day “proud” presented. If I know him he has the stock purchased only, to bring to expression what he thinks of the commercialization of a good thing in itself. Later, once he wants to give the floor to his friend Reiner from Bavaria if I understood him correctly. However, now we definitely have a real weapon on board, mit der wir Einbrecher in die Flucht schlagen können 🙂
In the late afternoon it was quite full in the city and it was decided unanimously, to go back home to La Coruna. Just as easily as on the way it went back again. At the station, hopped into the nearest taxi and we were back in the marina.
By car, the tour would certainly not have been so hassle free and definitely not as low. In Galicia, the trains are in a really great condition and on time.
After a relaxing break in the Marina attracted Waltraud and I once again going, to obtain still something delicious for dinner. Just when we were done at the grocery store, cell phone rang. Dietmar and Wolfgang were waiting in the port city on us, our purchases with the dinghy to transport the boat. What a luxury. So we could without the hassle of heavy bags and move on. Because it was still an item on our shopping list. Spain is so famous for its ham. In the old town we were often stopped by to shops, in which the entire ceiling full of ham hanging. Now we wanted to try these treats also. After a great advice from the seller, we choose from the plethora of different samples from various ham and bought in addition some Spanish cheese. Das Abendessen an Bord war ein echter Schmaus 🙂

3x tapas and only 2x Hercules
The Captain has a writer's block. Ever since we arrived in Spain, I kick him repeatedly around the feet. "Can you not even write something` s Logbook?"It Gern, but what for?“ Ok, I understand. Then we want you also no longer in suspense, denn hier passiert doch schon einiges 🙂
The last three days have flown by. After the long trip over the Bay of Biscay were on Friday on various ship repairs, which the captain successfully together with pal Martin completed. So we had during the last week always small and large amounts of water in the bilge. Not really critical, but that has the skipper simply do not like. Water in his ship, where you can eat but otherwise the engine room from the floor. 's Not the point! During the crossing, the crucial idea he had come. Our stern shower, which should free us after a swim in the sea on the bathing platform with fresh water from salt, was coming at the higher Atlantic shaft from behind, every now and again completely under water. As we found, you had next to a se totally unsuitable console with a hole!!! for the hose guide also cut a huge hole absolutely unnecessary in the rear mirror our SUMMER, dass dem Kapitän immer wieder die Tränen kamen 🙁 Da hat die Werft wirklich einen riesen Mist gebaut! After a trip to the chandlery and with the support of the console pal Martin was functionally reconstructed and sealed watertight! Also our radar was at sea more often from simple and had therefore urgently be subjected to critical examination and repair. After a few hours of the error is found. When mounting the radar antenna, an O-ring between the screw was clamped and thus we had at this point a loose connection. The boss was pretty pissed because it 2x in one day the error (friendly talk!) shipyard, with which he is otherwise very satisfied, could iron out. We are at the next night- fog or driving on the road again with a working radar and therefore safer.
While Dietmar and Martin worked on the ship, Waltraud and I made the environment unsafe. A little trip to the famous lighthouse “Hercules” on the program. Comfortable walking along the coast we discovered nice little beaches and beautiful landscapes. The great view from the lighthouse but we want to keep our men and decided not, later to make another trip there.
After completion of all work we wanted to treat ourselves to a nice tapas evening in the old town. At half past seven we set out at the marina and still strolled almost an hour through the narrow streets. Restaurants and bars in all shapes and colors! In the narrow streets so many people were traveling. Sometime we also had found a table in a nice bar. We left the cellar, the selection of tapas, because the Spanish card would not have really helped us. So we were able to enjoy genuine Galician specialties, the quite well with Rioja and Cerveza (Hopfentee) Fit. We were impressed by the great and fast service bar, without a PC and technical aids.
On the way back across the Praza de Maria Pita we heard a quarter of an hour in the open-air concert in. The Spaniards were really fired up, but we convinced the Spanish response (Dietmar said “Revenge”) Milva on despite the great atmosphere not really.
In Spain it has to rain again. Saturday was such a day. So it was once again time, to maintain the website and sort our photos. Dietmar used while new contacts and spent most of the day with Eckhardt and Ilona of the SY LONI 3. The two are with your brand new NAUTICAT 42 on the way to the Caribbean.
One of the rain breaks I used to be an extensive photo-walk through the Old Town.
Since the SY Ganesha with Martin and Violetta wanted to continue sailing south tomorrow we set out to, invite the two of them tonight in a tapas bar as “Thank-you” for help to the ship and the nice reception in La Coruna on our arrival. This time we will choose another bar and other tapas. The evening was but just as funny as the night before.
After the rainy day, the people flocked in the evening in the city. When we on the way back over the “Maria Pita Square” came, was there as well as the night before pretty full. Let's see, has to offer the Spanish entertainment tonight! This time the wait was definitely worth it. Even though the band was completely unknown to us, of course,, the music came on and the mood was huge. We were right in the middle, between all the singing and dancing Spaniards. It was a great feeling! Nur mitsingen ging leider nicht 🙂 Nach fast eineinhalb Stunden und einer langen Zugabe, was this beautiful evening actually almost too quickly to end.
Although we were come quite late to bed, we wanted on Sunday the same physically active start to the day. Together with Wolfgang and Waltraud we wanted the famous “Hercules”, the lighthouse from the second century AD, we do not want to keep the two gentlemen (see Friday). Previously should be on a short visit to the railway station, car rental can be reserved for the planned for tomorrow trip to Santiago de Compostela.
The two men left the excursion approach clearly sporty, while Waltraud and I followed more leisurely. Occasionally helped us through a red light, to reduce the decency again. But it was also, that the two men actually remembered your wives and appealed for a short break on a street corner.
Dietmar had already made with Martin of the SY Ganesha different bike rides through the city and took over towards the train station sovereign leadership. By and by racing driver he was not deterred by the direct route. So we cycled only along the waterfront and then continue on the motorway (hochgradig illegal) out of town. I was really relieved, when we suffer an exit to the station right. Weiter geradeaus wäre es auf die nächste Autobahn gegangen 🙂 Sein Kommentar war nur: “With me you will experience at least some”
The car rental was closed unfortunately, contrary to the statement of the harbor master Sundays. So we went without doing anything further to our next destination: The Playa de Riazor on the other side of La Coruna. Auch diesmal gewannen die beiden Männer diese doch deutlich anstrengendere Berg-Etappe 🙂
After a little refreshment and a further photo-stop, we followed the coast further to the Tower of Hercules, the Waltraud and I had visited on Friday. But today, in bright sunshine saw the whole coast twice as nice. Unfortunately, that also found the numerous Spaniards, who wanted to spend their Sunday here. The line of those, who wanted to climb the lighthouse, frighteningly long. We enjoyed the view from the foot of the lighthouse across the bay and then biked back to Marina.
In the city today circus was announced. On the Plaza Maria Pita various stations had already been set up in the morning. As was found in our fridge nothing enticing for dinner, We decided after a stroll through the circus-place somewhere to go eat something delicious. Surely we found our way to the tapas bar, in which we had spent the nice Friday evening. But this time we had themselves spoiled for choice. These pressed the waitress an English map in hand. And although yes tapas actually translated “Morsel” ie, we had done it again, viel zu viel zu bestellen und natürlich auch zu essen 🙂

There was still something?!
Something was different this morning than usual. The sun shone brighter somehow, the air was soft and the 24 ° C felt wonderfully hot. We are in Spain! The weather gave himself honestly tried and showed itself from its best side. Straight away on holiday feeling.
As always after a night ride or longer beats, we let the day take it easy. Somehow today was indeed a very special day: Our first day in a new country! Or was there something else? Only after a nice email of our groomsmen Hartmut the penny dropped. Of course, ….. our wedding day! To forget this day, would probably not have happened to me in Germany J whole nine years, we believe it is now already out of each other. Good, that we have forgotten this time both. So konnte der Tag ganz entspannt seinen Lauf nehmen 🙂
But first we had to do the paperwork and negotiate the price for our mooring. For here are the mooring fees Throwdown. This cute secret betrayed us friend Martin from the SY Ganesha. Martin is in terms of "negotiating" a very tough guy. For himself and his friends (Subjects such as, thank God) he had negotiated the Super save price two weeks ago. So war also klar, one weeks in La Coruna Special offer for .... (that we do not betray rather).
Ever since the morning was the position of the SY MENTOR under my constant observation over www.marinetraffic.com. Of course we wanted to remove the linen to our friends, when they reach La Coruna. The optimal place for us to dock I had already spotted, now I had to steer the SY MENTOR only there. In the age of FM radio that should not be an issue. Because yes is more likely to spark Dietmars area, yes like the touts for his life, I got the radio a bit skeptical about. Even after multiple calls to channel 16 but I got no answer. Ok, then an attempt with the handheld radio. Again, nothing .... The last possibility was then the phone. No connection! If one so the technology let you down, only one remedy: Ran to the harbor entrance and wave. Das funktioniert immer 😉 So dirigierte ich die MENTOR in die richtige Richtung, and sprinted back to our dock, so fast I wore flip-flops. The plan worked, and the two were received as scheduled on the web.
In the afternoon, Martin and Violetta were to us as local guides at our first exploration by bike to the. The two were already since 2 Weeks with your SY Ganesha in the marina and knew the city as your pocket. By bike we scoured the main stations and began at the city harbor. There, we looked briefly at the SY AMAZONE past, further wanted to sail to the south the next morning. After an emotional reunion, the two had to go and still do last minute shopping.
So we rode on to the best electronics business, the best chandlery, the best bakers and of course the best supermarket - all SY Ganesha quality tested. Northern Spain is for us was another reason why attractive. Food prices are incredibly low by German standards. So we filled our backpacks with all, what is needed for a proper barbecue. A short time later it bruzzelten the first steaks on the grill COB at the dock in front of the berth of SY Ganesha. The first bottle of wine, who was waiting for our reunion since Flensburg, was decapitated and a fun evening was nothing in the way.

The Biskaya
"Die Biskaya, also known as the Bay of Biscay, is a bay of the Atlantic Ocean, extending from Galicia to Brittany along the north coast of Spain and the west coast of France. This sea area is for bad weather, severe storms and extreme sea conditions known. " (Zitat Wikipedia)
That sounds very promising times….. Exactly, what according to you wish for after a two-week sailing break so. In Brest we had enjoyed several days after my holiday home relaxing country holiday.
But on Sunday it was time: An optimal weather window for the Bay of Biscay opened up. Drei Tage bis vier staff rushes Nordwind, the even should turn to the East in a pleasant thickness of maximum 5 Beaufort, bis in Boo 6. In addition, plenty of sunshine and little rain. That sounded perfect to.
Saturday was so completely dominated by the travel preparations. Since we wanted to run together with the SY MENTOR, but Waltraud and Wolfgang would only arrive on Saturday night at eleven clock back to Brest we moved in the morning going, around this time two refrigerators fill properly. Brest's supermarkets offer the sailors as a special service: Just give us a call and you will be picked up for free with the car at the marina and returned again after shopping. So we could uncontrollably one last time stash French goodies. Let's see, whether at least part of it would catch sight of the Spanish coast, or at least fall already on the way to the skipper victim would.
After pre-cooked properly for three days the food was in the refrigerator, the last emails were answered and brought the website to stand. About eleven, the crew of SY MENTOR knocked briefly on our Rehling. The crew had come back well from Hamburg and we agreed to meet the next morning at half past eight.
So we went on a Sunday morning on the trip and left us on the current through the strait pull off Brest. Fast 10 Node above ground showed to our Sign. At 350 Mile path that lay before us, was of course a nice start. Out on the open water unfortunately left us the flow and also the promised wind dropped again in coming. In the morning we heard radio round, that the SY LONI III were with Eckhardt and Ilona already for nine clock on the way from Camaret to La Coruna. They were already 7,5 Nautical miles on the same course ahead. The naturally aroused the racers in my Captain. Now there was no stopping. So we put the Parasailor and took chase. However, since the detailed planning in the heat of battle had remained somewhat on the track, unfortunately a little too early. Because of the scale by the skipper course of 210 ° would have led us directly to a shoal off the French coast. So the poor Parasailor had to experience his first "close-hauled course", he who issued natured about yourself. But we want to mention about the achieved rate rather. 😉
350 Nautical miles are already a neat long distance. We hoped, them to sail with a good wind in two and a half days. The Biscay wave rocked us through pretty neat and the wind increased as promised continued to increase in strength.
Multiple visited us and dolphins playing in our bow wave.
Considered the whole, the crossing was very peaceful and stress-free (no major surprises). Through regular radio rounds we remained in contact with the SY LONI III, sailed still ahead of us. Contact with the SY MENTOR we unfortunately lost on the second day, than the distance between our was too large and the range of the VHF radio has been exceeded.
After we had made on the first night, despite numerous sail changes only little ground well, we were on the second night thanks to full sail wardrobe, much to the surprise of the SY LONI 3 Move up TWELVE miles closer! Our aim was approaching and about noon of the third day came the Spanish coast in sight.
Since the SUMMER ran smoothly and reliably under autopilot, we used the time, to our arrival to optimally prepare. So was the kitchen cleaned and rinsed, the beds freshly made and the two sailors went fine country to.
Took about nine clock our friends Martin and Violetta from the SY Ganesha in La Coruna on the lines. Freshly showered and amazingly relaxed we could really make an impression. Our first night on the Spanish mainland, we could end on board the SY Ganesha with delicious tuna salad and still cozy, until then but eventually the tiredness prevailed. Nice if you have good friends!
Frau Capitana, a mangy friend and a submarine for men
Five days ago, it is now, that life has changed radically back on board. The boss has again taken over the helm of your return. Gone are the days of the life Lotter! The pleasurable monotony in the composition of the fridge contents consisting of yogurt, Fried egg, Lindt chocolate brown / white and 3 different varieties investors beer is a much more varied range of rabbit food (Salads), Vegetable Cheese, Wurst usw. given way. The rest periods are of 02.00 Clock in the morning to good home 23:30 been brought forward. An outlier has yet been, that was a nice barbecue with Ralf, Kerstin and the two adult “Children” of the SY Lothlorien. Our sailing friends are a bit yesterday morning then hopefully with good winds back further than broken up towards the end of the holiday home moves for the family closer.
One of the extremely sympathetic experiences and acquaintances, which we were allowed to make here is that of Mr. Penguin. No one knows exactly how it has slyly the friendly gentlemen to Brest. Every morning greeted us the slightly mangy-looking fellow with a loud “quaakkk”, that the tone here is reminiscent of a large frog with a sore throat. Upon closer research on the internet Katja has our friend “Alk” and thus can be identified as a penguin. Only a female we can not discover. But whether this means happiness or sorrow for our friend sprung, weiß nur er allein 🙂
For over a week, a lot of action is all around us offered. Hundreds of young people of all nations and sporty appearance bring right next door every day your surfboards water and then gather on the open water, in order to discharge your races. For over a week, the World Championships are held here in windsurfing for teens. It's great to watch, the high level water sports are practiced here. Of course you fight and struggle for medals. But the sporting competition in the foreground and not the world political events. Evening celebrating the young people of France, Japan, Russia, Israel, USA usw. then their successes with each other in fellowship and peace. Class! Not, that we here in time, in which we wait for our friends from the SY MENTOR before we depart for La Coruna / Spain together on Sunday, had spent in vain. The slogan is still: every day a good deed, or? My interpretation of it was, pay a visit to the local yacht chandlers every day. Just yesterday I was once again “Friend of the day”. It was the lad is happy as the extremely massive theft protection for our outboard motor gone in my pocket. He literally said “Man, today was a very good day for me” (freely translated from the French). His joy was not surprising, because I would not know how many years he part the (Non-seller) has been dragged through the inventory. Previously I had gelöhnt the repair for the engine SY MENTOR and the mooring fees for both yachts (paid). My bank will certainly be surprised once again, what the Henke so all drives with his credit card. 🙂
Yesterday afternoon we saw something brilliant. A man has two “Water Jet Nozzles” strapped under her feet and a 80 Hp jet ski has urged by a tube connecting its water jet through the nozzle. The guy has a height of just over 10 Achieved meters and even beaten so Saltos. If it would just not always taste so good to me, I would also like to have a go the. At my weight, but would have a 130 PS Gerät herhalten 🙂
In the afternoon we were still in Brest and have the castle of Brest naval museum visits including. The castle was a very massive fortress-developed, which has the coming of the lake attackers prepares powerful headache.
My personal highlight was issued a German U-boat there from the 2 World war. It was in the year 1944 of the type “Seehund” 600 Produced piece. Supposedly, the U-boats were very seaworthy and highly successful! Es war 7-8 Days with 2 Crew and with 2 Torpedoes in the Atlantic on the way. These were men!
The increase over the “Seehund” to the third power was a floating torpedo with a man / woman crew. The part could not scuba diving and the “Captain” could aim only by a glass dome. If he at his destination “knocked” has, the number was also over for him. Respect for these heroes at sea! These boats are unfortunately no longer produced, otherwise I would certainly as one in the “Garage” stand. There were times, I would be only too happy once in one or the other comrades so “knocked” 🙂 Aber diese Zeiten sind seit gut 7 Monaten vorüber 🙂 Morgen am Sonntag wollen wir es wagen. It is planned, that we are to 9:00 Linens casting of lots and to our first real “Blue Water Adventure” break up. With Course 209 We leave degree France and sail directly over the famous / infamous Biscay (Bay of Biscay) La Curuna not (Spain). We will ca. 3 His days on the road and get a feel for the first time the long Atlantic wave under the ship. Let's see, whether we will accompany dolphins and if the depth gauge at 3000 – 4000 Metern Wasser unter dem Kiel seinen Dienst quittieren wird 🙂 Die Wetterbedingungen sind gut, the woman is in a good mood and our SUMMER chomping at the bit anyway. We will not adopt Mr Penguin front and then the journey begins! We will get back then when we arrived. Hi there!!!
Luck fishing, a feasting and much investors beer
Today is Sunday and again in two days my Capitana comes back on board. We spend with each passing day aboard our SUMMER, also advances the “old life” further into the distance. Life in a port has their own dynamics and laws. No day is like the other and constantly meeting new people and perspectives arising for the day's activities and new destinations.
Last Friday, the highlight of the day was definitely the invitation to a feasting of the SY MULINE from Stralsund. On the menu, the self-caught sea bream from the day before and the eel were from our fridge in the program. About 15:30 it was done. Katja skipper of the MULINE submitted two really big shells fresh from the oven with fish, Potatoes and vegetables from the pantry up on deck. Die Crew der 11 Meter long SY MULINE is at least three adults and two small children. Respect to the cook, has conjured up an excellent meal in the heated with kerosene heater! There was even a tasty dessert! In the evening Katya had even already caught three bream. Petri Heil!
Plagued by bad conscience after looking at the imaginary “Honey To Do Liste” yesterday was the Haussmann day. For a hearty breakfast was not much time for who knows, if not, another orphan skipper would still get the idea, trying to impress his wife with freshly washed laundry. Quick turned the laundry bag on the left and sorted out all the white T-shirts by Katja. Then jumped on `s folding bike and sprinted with the stuff for washing machine. Cover on,Laundry pure and 3 Euros thrown into the machine. The problem with the program choice was made in the committee process and pressed the start button. After the rush of the water I noticed then another one, that there still detergent purely must. So up on `s bike and back to the boat and with “Persil Flüssig” under the arm back. Thank God I had pressed a button with prewash. The result was to be seen. At least everything smelled violently detergent in the boat which has probably as much to mean, that everything is clean, or?
Our mooring neighbor Heligoland with its old wooden yacht “Moby Dick” from Viersen had a greater task ahead. Already on Friday it had begun, to free the deck with unbelievable stamina with steam from loose paint residues. The paint had literally dismantled after the last hard winter in the water into its components. Heligoland is one of the species of the so-called hard-core sailors. He sails preferably in strong winds and storms in autumn and winter. His ship has no fixed port and he sails for years just keep the coast south along when he has the time to. In a small talk on the web and therefore a welcome interruption of busy work, we arranged for the afternoon to visit the local yacht chandler and the supermarket. Since Heligoland had traveled with his VW bus, we had the best transport for our project at the start. A unique opportunity, otherwise to be transported in bags or backpacks heavy drinks pleasantly easy to get on our boat. After an hour in the skipper's shopping paradise (Chandlery) have once again some Euros changed hands. Natürlich standen nur die absolut lebensnotwendigsten Investitionen auf der Einkaufsliste 🙂 Dann sind wir schnell noch zum Supermarkt gefahren, not to risk even an empty fridge. Shopping is hard work! My admiration the ladies, the sanity- and price-oriented the many temptations again standing, place a ausgewogende selection of goods unerringly into the Shopping Cart. I notice the very, very difficult! The cashier has also even wondered as then from my Shopping Cart 5 Pallets “Investors beer”, 3 Pallets of mineral water, diverse and many fruit juices plus yoghurts etc. ran across the band. For me looked Heligoland rather inclined to. Had I but told him as well as the other sailing friends long and wide, that I would drink alcohol only in extremely limited quantities and homeopathic. He must have wondered, as I define homeopathy.
Back on the boat was then screwed diligently on the boat and installed the purchases of chandlery. Besides a few other challenges it has given me a block on the mast particularly impressed. The part has the function of a case (Rope with the e.g.. a sail is hoisted) set. Such a block I wanted to open and then had the handle in his hand. Canceled due to material fatigue caused by UV rays. That can not be but! Since the part is not made so simply unscrew, it was just executed with the pipe wrench. Here, the “Henke” persönlich Hand angelegt 🙂 Damit wurde eine kleine Eskalationskette weiterer “Ailments” triggered, I do not want to describe them here. Tomorrow I have to give once more to chandlery.
Slowly we went on to the fun part of the day. At the very moment when I was doing the shopping to create below deck, came even the crew of the SY swantje from Port William in the form of Karsten and his cute girlfriend Stefanie from Austria with a few cans of beer investor in the luggage, determination toward SUMMER. Straight 2 Minutes earlier also Heligoland and his girlfriend Rosi have come on board, after the two deservedly sandpaper and brush had laid after many hours of drudgery out of hand. What followed was a fun evening. Finally I could even sprinkle investors beer in the round. Karsten and Heligoland sailors have told stories at its finest and it was laughed a lot. In the morning at 01:30 then was the end of the nice round. I then cleared some empty cans and the half-full bottle of rose from the table. Exactly such evenings like this I wished for on our trip. Just to be able without having to look at the clock and think about the morning enjoy the moment with nice people. “Life is wonderful” and if my Katja had been there, wäre es sicher noch schöner gewesen 🙂
Moulin Blanc – Fahrradtouren, Crepes, Radio rounds and an unemployed hunger whip
As I sit alone on our SUMMER at position 48 ° 23.588 ° Nord/004,25,739 West in the Marina “Moulin Blanc”, which means as much as “White Mill”. Whatever the reason, that is so has not yet revealed to me until now. For that reason alone because Katja is increased yesterday in the plane to Leverkusen for home leave, to share with your mother (my mother in law) the world festival of equestrian sport-CHIO Cup- to visit in Aachen. This morning on the phone said Katja, that much paperwork would be to do. Recht so, because my hardworking woman should but want to come back with pleasure to Brest on board back:-) Our dear sailing friends from the MENTOR have also taken equal to the opportunity for a short furlough and are not there also. For me they both have a 600 Leave oz filet steak, that amateur chef Wolfgang had hidden for special occasions deep in the fridge. I had to control myself directly, to cut only the first half in the pan and set aside me the second half for today. It was extremely delicious! THANK YOU!
My task for the time as Strohwitwer was clearly defined and precisely defined. I'm supposed to take care of both ships, Allow the engine professional for a repair to be carried out on board the MENTOR, our ship where necessary to bring in income, Discover Brest, Catch fish, Sailors to know, be on the road as a tester for the best crepes, constantly thinking about my wife and let be a good man to love God. All tasks, die einen echt fordern 🙂 Nachdem Katja Ihr Gepäck im Kofferraum des Taxis hat verschwinden lassen und mit dem selbigen von dannen geeilt war, was first necessary to equip the new pantry can be stocked. The supermarket should be located around the corner still the same. My best friend, the folding bicycle was therefore put into combat readiness and already started the Gaudi. 1 1/2 Hours later it was clear, that was not the supermarket in the suspected area. Each slope until then, I have noted with joy because finally makes every course known slim. As a reward, each stood a “Chocolate Crepe” and a “Crêpe Sucre” from the creperie at the port on the program. Yummy! As punishment for 2 Eat pancakes instead of just a crepe I have once again undergone a complete revision of all pumps and valves, the on-board toilet and then thoroughly cleaned the whole bathroom. Das ist Strafarbeit aber einer muss es ja machen 🙂 Heute morgen habe ich dann den Supermarkt in ca. 4,5 Km found!
Ever Marina is the “Moulin Rouge” highly recommended. There is enough space for Guest mooring available, all plants make a clean and well-organized impression, the port is protected and the berths are affordable. After all, there are good here 1600 Boats of all sizes and all Brest seems to be love watersports. Every day, legions of children with small sailboats and surfboards on the water on the road and you see a lot of families on sailing yachts. That's exactly the other way around here in Germany. There one sees mostly elderly relative solely on your ships in the harbor. Equally striking is, that here or anywhere else in France (at least there where we've been) hardly overweight children see. Water is great for the kids! First, they are in good hands, Second, even healthy and fun it is also! The next few days I'll go take a bus to Brest in.
There are two further things , which occupy a special place in my life on board. The radio every morning round on 8297,00 Mhz USB and my fishing rod. But the best thing at a time. The first day I had to draw lucky to find a beautiful eel from the Atlantic, of the piece of salmon fillet on the hook could not resist. That was it but also. Since I see every day how other anglers get buckets of sea bream from the water. Only my hunger whip remains unemployed. NIX!!! Had even forgotten the fishing catch overnight. This morning were ALL bait still there. But one has explained to me, that there should be no eels here allegedly. Sounds strange, but is so! But that it works every morning with the radio round on the marine radio frequency 8297,00 Mhz USB and afternoon on 12359 Mhz USB. Here “meet” to yachts with a SSB radio (Seefunkanlage) equipped are moderated by Joerg from the SY-Harrier / YACHTFUNK.com to exchange experiences and to nice discussions. The yachts are in Denmark, Sweden, Finland, France, Spain, Portugal, Turkey on the way. A great story and a good community of sailors. Later in the Caribbean, in the South Seas and the remaining areas of the world to us the radio with valuable weather data and provide us with other sailors to Contact. We are glad of any radio round, in which we may know our system better. We seem to have taken it very well with our system because we are always very good to understand and we also receive other sailors clearly. Meanwhile, other yachts have to contend with significant problems and disorders. The topic Installation and tuning is so complex, that we have made it seem right and have left the installation of the company RADIO YACHT. Of Resultat: a clean and reliable functioning system with the best performance. As far as I've gotten to know, run all of the facilities YACHTFUNK.com has installed trouble-free. If I have learned anything in my professional life in the high-tech industry then the: Complex tasks and things which are “it matters” I leave to professionals, who are familiar with it. Just so our customers have even worked with us. Es könnte so einfach sein 🙂 So jetzt aber Schluss damit, the chapter we already left behind!
Let's see what the neighbors have fished on the SY MULINE so. Am besten gehe ich gleich mal rüber 🙂
PS: An addendum: tonight at 21:15 I have worked with Katie's help (Wife of Christoph von der SY MULINE) die grösste Dorade des Tages aus dem Wasser gezogen 🙂 Morgen gibt es ein gemeinsames Mittagessen auf der MULINE.
